Use a template & add a background in Google Vids

You can create and use templates like meeting recaps, project updates, help center tutorials, and more to get started with video creation.

Create a new video with a template

You can create a new video from a template.

On your computer, open Google Vids.
In the start menu, select the aspect ratio of your Vid: Landscape.
Click Templates.
To narrow your template search, use filters.
- Sort by Function, Design Style, Color, or Industry.
Click on a template in the template gallery to preview:
- To add all scenes from the template to your video, click Insert all scenes.
- To add the current scene from the template to your video, click Insert current scene.

You can add a template or an individual scene from a template to an existing video.

On your computer, open a video in Google Vids.
On the right, click Templates .
To narrow your template search, use filters.
- Sort by Function, Design Style, Color, or Industry.
Select the preferred template.
A copy of the template opens in the side panel.
- To add all scenes from the template, at the bottom, click Insert all scenes.
- To add scenes individually, click the scene you want to add.

You can change the colors or fonts across your template using the Styles side panel.

On your computer, open a video in Google Vids.
In the toolbar, click Customize Styles .
To update the font color, on the right, click on the color or text you want to update.
Optional: To customize new shapes in your scenes, at the bottom, click New objects and scenes.

A background is the picture or color behind your scene’s content. You can change the background color of one scene or all the scenes in a video.

On your computer, open a video in Google Vids.
Select a scene in the timeline at the bottom of your canvas.
Insert the image you want as background.

Right-click the image, then click Set image as background .

To add a background color, right-click on the canvas Background .
Select a color.
Optional: To add a custom color, under "Custom," click Add , select a hex code or adjust the color, hue, or transparency, Click OK.
