Prevent Pages from automatically renaming files

With Siri turned off, I can click that down-arrow on the document name and it offers suggested alternatives to the document name. Clearly, not something that I will deliberately click to change the document name.

Quit Pages. In System Settings > Siri > App Access > Apps > Pages — turn off Learn from this application. That may suppress it from actively performing the rename suggestion. If it does not, then I would disable Siri while using Pages. I simply do not use Siri and avoid your auto-renaming annoyance.

I cannot duplicate your stated "renaming" when opening "_" punctuated Word documents in Pages versions: 15.3.1 (macOS 27), or v14.4 (macOS 14). The original word document basename is displayed in the translated Pages document title bar and is retained in the Save/Save As panel.

I have tested this with Word (.docx) documents saved from Word v16.113.1 and earlier, and those exported from Pages v15.3.1 and LibreOffice 26.8, or older versions of these applications.

Here are instructions on how to turn off Apple Intelligence. It's not easy.

You requested help with this autonomous file renaming problem. I provided what I do not have enabled that prevented this issue from occurring here, and a preventative action on your behalf.

Ah. I see my own help request is similar. I would just like to be able to turn off the title suggestion altogether. I understand that software developers want to help, but having software trying to anticipate human behavior or desires and doing it for you, is incredibly frustrating and often counterproductive. It's why I turn off things like auto-correct immediately upon setting up a new device. I don't WANT the things to do work for me. I want it to just get out of my way and let me cook!

Is that another way of saying "all the rage" and/or "the only growth industry left"? The people have spoken. And they demand more cowbell.

Perhaps. And I appreciate that other people may prefer the cowbell. I’d prefer more kick and snare myself, but each to his own. We should all be able to set our instruments up the way we like them.

So, to keep up the drumkit/cowbell analogy, I’d like more Keith Moon and less SNL comedy sketch.

I found and followed that guide earlier, but Pages continues to insist upon choosing names for my new documents. (The worst part, is the suggested names seem to be summaries of the content, but they are so wildly wrong most of the time it's almost funny.)
