I decided to give this app a shot since it has an extensive database of local foods (the OCD in me is satisfied). I’m 1.5 weeks in, and I’m loving it so far. It took a bit of adjusting, as the interface is quite different from my previous food tracking app.I like how I can list all the food items from a meal in an open-ended format, while also having the ability to add, remove, or replace food items simply by following up with additional information about the meal. Capturing food macros by photo is also a very convenient and quick way to track my meals when I don’t have time to log each item individually. The ability to add food items via the barcode scanner or label reader is another great alternative. However, I do wish that these scanned items could be added under the “My Foods” tab so that I can access them again in the future. There are also a few other bugs and issues, such as:- the app can take a while to load sometimes.- I get automatically logged out of the app quite often.Overall, this app has a lot of potential to grow. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more brands become available.
Great potential but need to fix the basics first

Love supporting local, the idea of accuracy in macros by partnering local joints to lab test dishes, offering an AI feature. Good app for beginners who want to start macros tracking but not sure where to begin. What has been putting me off / not making me want to pay for premium:1. For experienced trackers, your kcal/macros in the app is fixed by adding your weight, activity level & goal. Assuming you already know what macros you need/want to start off with, there’s no way to manually override what’s given by the system. 2. “My Foods” (i.e. where you log your own foods that can’t be found in the Ventrickle database) takes forever to load. Not sure if it’s because of the number of entries I have (~40) but each time I toggle to the page it takes between 15-20 seconds to load. Page only shows 10 entries, then loading the next 10 entries takes another 15-20 seconds to load. Press “+” to log from the My Foods page and it takes another 15 seconds to reload the page for you to log the next food item. 3. When you add a new entry on “My Foods”, you’re given 2 fields to fill: (1) Item name, (2) Brand. Searching the brand name on My Foods doesn’t load the item, so I had to resort to adding brand name to Item Name field subsequently. I’ve tried the app for the last 6 months, overall sentiment is that there are better free apps out there which are less buggy & works better (higher propensity to then pay for premium).
Room for improvement

The thought behind the app is great. However, after accidentally clicking on the “rewind” and distributing my excess calories to the next 10 days, there is no way to undo this rewind. Furthermore, it has decided that all my macros have miraculously been hit for the day (170g) when I know I did not achieve my macros for the day (118g).The restaurant meals is not yet extensive, and searching for the right meal is a slow process literally as it takes time for the app to load up the meals. Searching by location is also relatively slow, and sometimes it is unable to detect my current location, instead showing the current location as the previously search location.Overall, good thought behind the app but improvements should be made to its core function of calorie and macro tracking cause the math ain’t mathing when the log says my protein is 118 but the chart shows 170.

I had a great experience with the app!! Bc of my work, i always eat out and most calorie trackers don’t work for me because they log in generic numbers (and tbh im just lazy to manually do everything). Ventrickle is a lot more localised and their AI tracker is really convenient bc i can just take a picture and their system does the logging in for me. Also seemingly small thing but i like the whole UX, very smooth and aesthetically pleasing, makes me want to use the app!!I also like their rewind feature because sometimes i do go over what I’m recommended to consume, and personally i think diet shouldn’t be so inflexible, so this feature makes me feel less guilty when i do go over because i can just make it up in the next few days.
What's New in 2.0.6
Sharper Label IQ: the scanner now picks the right lens for close-up labels, with a hint on phones that need a little more distance.
Your custom calorie and macro targets now stay put when you update your profile or goal, with a badge showing when they're custom and a one-tap reset.
Edit protein, carbs, fat and fibre on any logged item, including restaurant meals.
Tell your coach which foods to avoid, and it remembers across every conversation.
Fixes: meals moved to another day no longer disappear, dark mode is readable everywhere, today's list updates the moment you log, photo uploads are more reliable, and the morning greeting shows up when you open the app.
